About the artistSchuyler Edwardsen is a young artist living and working in central New York. She recently obtained her undergraduate degree in fine art from Alfred University’s school of Art and Design. She has also spent time furthering her practice abroad, while living and working in the U.K, at Plymouth University, this time abroad greatly influenced the artists body of work, as well as her state of mind.
She is a contemporary figurative artist, exploring elements of the human condition; and addressing the role of women in art; and the controversy surrounding the naked figure. She predominately uses female figures from her own life to capture moments of tension, both figuratively and literally. Exploring the metaphorical representation within moments of intimacy, and their reflection of her own life. She is predominately an oil painter however; she uses watercolor, gauche, and house paint. She is also an experienced printmaker, having a deep love of etchings, and stone lithography. She believes her medium is unrelated to the outcome, she is constantly searching for what she considers proper representations of these moments, and these escapades take her through both time and texture. This desire to understand her own psyche as well as the actions of others, is represented in her application of paint, as well as the position in which she places each figure, the weight she attaches to each element of the piece. She continues to work, and seek these unanswered questions. |
